Resolving Grief and Loss

Finding peace with unfinished business through guided meditation and chairwork

5 Week Online Meditation Course
  • Date: 25th Jul - 22nd Aug 2022
  • Instructor: Cedric Reeves
  • Cost: Sliding scale

Join us for this course where we will do guided meditation to resolve grief using chairwork. We will work towards closure for grief and a reorientation of life.

The intended outcome is to bring about acceptance and integration so that we are more present to our lives as they are in the here and now. We will experience more internal coherence, clarity, and energy to embrace life.

Who is this for?

  • For anyone who has experienced difficult loss, whether of a person, a relationship, or a part of themselves
  • Suitable for anyone new to attachment-work, or is already experienced.
  • People with Insecure Attachment.
  • For people who are willing to do the work to get results

  • 5 Week Course: One live 90 minute class per week
  • Live Online Sessions: The live sessions will be hosted on Zoom. An email with the zoom links will be sent to you after you have registered.
  • Q&A: There will be opportunity to ask questions during the Q&A section.

Attendance & Recordings

  • Partial attendance is fine - however you get best results if you attend all sessions.
  • Late Starts: You can join even after it has started.
  • View at your own pace: The event will be recorded and sent out to registered participants for viewing on your own schedule.

This event has started but you are perfectly welcome to join mid-way. You can attend the remaining live classes and will get access to all of the recordings.

We can't guarantee placement into a practice-pod for late sign ups, but we will try our best.

Event Date & Time

Start Date: 25th Jul - End Date: 22nd Aug 2022

There will be one live 90 minute class per week.

What to Expect

Guided meditation will be the main focus of the program. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions and share whatever you feel comfortable with. There will be no pressure to do so; passive participation is perfectly fine.

So it is with grief where, if all goes well, can come a strengthening of the inner world, of memory and definition. – John Bowlby

Unresolved loss is an important area assessed on the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI).  According to John Bowlby, the creator of Attachment Theory, grief and mourning can disrupt development and even lead to long lasting psychological maladie.

The course will include 5 classes of 90 minutes each, as well as the option to participate in a practice pod. The practice pod is a group of peer-students who meet outside of class time to meditate together, share their experiences, and encourage each other in practice. This is not a required part of the course but is included for those who are interested.

Course Overview

This program is suitable for beginners to meditation and healing work.

The main modality used will be Chairwork, which involves talking to our loved one or lost part of self. We will dialogue with them and seek resolution, all in the context of guided meditation.

In addition to chairwork, this course will draw on

  • Gestalt – giving voice to all that is unresolved in the here and now
  • Existential Psychotherapy – concerned with the human condition and the inevitability of death in life
  • Attachment Theory (Bowlby)
  • Metacognitive Therapy – “thinking about thinking”; being able to recognize your thoughts and understand their source
  • Ideal Parent Figure Protocol (Brown & Elliott)
  • Stages of Grief (Kübler-Ross) – denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance and hope.

We will also use the Buddhist compassion meditation of “tong len” to further integrate and metabolize our grief. This helps us see grief is part of our shared humanity

You will be encouraged to listen to the guided meditations with your practice pod, however there will be no further homework in this course.

Practice Pods

Participants in this course have the option to join a practice pod. This is an informal group of 3-5 students who meet, usually once a week, to listen to a guided meditation, discuss difficulties in practice, and share insights and progress. Connecting with peer learners in this way can keep you motivated, consolidate learning, and create a sense of community.

Who is this for?

This program is for those of us who...

  • Have unresolved grief of any kind
  • Are working with grieving over the past, be it a loss of relationship, loss of self, or any other traumatic event
  • Are looking to improve our psychological health, especially those who have tried other healing modalities with disappointing results
  • Have problems with exploration and self development, relationships and emotional regulation
  • Want to optimise our psychological health

Healing Together

Shared interest and social support can make meditation practice, study, and healing much easier. Make friends in the course on the slack channel and invite friends who you think could benefit to participate in the course.

These are some of the benefits you will have by the end of the program

Theoretical Understanding

  • Deeper knowledge of the grieving process and how it can be interrupted or facilitated.
  • Greater understanding and compassion for psychological problems and vulnerabilities that affect you and others.

  • Greater sense of closure in relation to existing loss.
  • More integration of the mind as a whole.
  • Less identification with your psychological maladies and quirks (ego-dystonia with your maladaptive schemas).
  • More understanding and compassion towards your parts/modes and needs.

For your relationships

  • Confidence in the lasting value of relationships with lost loved ones
  • Better appreciation for the importance and value of interpersonal collaboration

Support Structure

  • Opportunities to find accountability partners to meditate with
  • A sense of camaraderie as a result of seeing how our psychological difficulties are rooted in common experiences that affect us all.
  • Slack group with which to discuss and share experiences and consolidate what you are learning

This is what participants of prior Courses have to say:

I am enjoying the Healing Anxious-Preoccupied Attachment course so much! It's blowing my mind, and that's after decades of amazing therapy, EMDR, attachment couples therapy, neurofeedback, inner child nurturing, self-compassion, and many other profound growth experiences. I’m so delighted by how much I'm getting out of the course. Feels like it's a missing piece for me that is so healing. Thank you !

I gained an ability to self soothe, meet my needs for validation and feeling seen/heard (which were often unmet in childhood), an overall feeling like I am less alone in my work of healing my attachment. I realize I benefit greatly from an 8 week course with a weekly meeting, I am able to do daily meditations on my own and feel supported in this routine with the weekly meetings. I feel I am actively and consistently working on my attachment repair by being part of a longer course (as opposed to a weekend workshop).

Loved the course and loved this kind of emotional work. Look forward to doing more that you offer. Content was excellent. Meditation around Schema modes went quite deep and uncovered difficult emotions. Doing micro hits has improved some situations that would have gone worse.

I’m sure this will seem out of the blue to you, but I was just thinking of things I am thankful for and thought of you and the two Attachment Repair courses of yours I had the pleasure to participate in. I just wanted to say a very heartfelt thank you. I want you to know I really appreciated the kindness and effort you put into that work, and into responding to all of our questions. My exposure to your teaching has been immensely helpful for me.

I’m knowing myself better which allows me to connect in a more authentic way. I am also recognizing the attachment styles better in people I interact with and hammering out what I am really seeking in a relationship. I didn’t realize how important unconditional exploration and expression was for me until this class.

Thank you for continuing to make these classes. When I am able to attend, they make a really positive contribution to my mental health :)

Anastasia Chebotaryova

I want to say thank you for giving this opportunity and I recommend this course because of the huge impact it is making on my well-being. It is easier to self-regulate emotionally and I have a deeper understanding of attachment and compassion and it’s place and impact in life.

THANK YOU!! this is powerful for me, so thank you thank you for sharing your insight. I like how you really balance the “just do the work” attitude with sooo much compassion and empathy for how hard it is. Now I know how to use the immense power of my imagination to heal my most fundamental body-mind-soul mechanisms and have a more joyful, loving life.

I love your offerings. Keep them coming. You have a good capacity to make people feel seen – and also show great respect for us as individuals – in itself that is an healing factor in being in courses of yours! Your humbleness and humour – make every call a killer. Rock on. I like learning about these subjects! Feels very helpful in understanding my problems/reason to part of my suffering. I feel I have grown during the course so far – and or moving in a better direction.

This event is offered on a sliding scale to be accessible to anyone.

Not been able to make a $150 payment (which I hope is acceptable) – keeps showing the $300.

    1. Attachment Repair

      Hi Peter,
If you select the “Pay what you can” box and type $150 in, it should then refresh the Product table to show your new price of $150. If that still doesn’t work you can make a manual payment to us via the donations page: attachmentrepair.com/donations, then shoot us an email and I’ll sign you up.

Cedric will this course on grief be offered again? I must have missed it – I don’t get good reminders of course starts in my inbox from you so I don’t even know if I already signed up lol.
But, I missed two mondays already and cannot do midday weekday classes, but have a strong need and interest in grief work.
Any thoughts or insight on future offerings of this sort?
    Thanks so much,

    1. Hi Annie,
Yes we plan on offering this course again, probably in October. We do send out reminders for each course the day before, please make sure they’re not landing in your spam.

I just checked and you aren’t signed up to this current Grief course
