Coming into Balance Regarding Responsibility
Correcting Imbalanced Assessments of Responsibility
Half-day Online Meditation Workshop- Date: Sunday, 28th Jul 2024
- Instructor: Cedric Reeves
- Cost: Sliding scale $30 ~ $120
Join us for this workshop where we will discuss the distortions around responsibility which is a hallmark of insecure attachment. Around negative events (memories of difficult relationships, etc), people with dismissing avoidant attachment over-assign to self and under-assign responsibility to others. The opposite is true for people with anxious preoccupied attachment. We'll discuss how this distortion was a helpful adaptation in the past, yet is troublesome in the present. Then we'll work through this in the guided meditations.
The intended outcome is a better understanding of why you either under or over assign responsibility to self/other, why it was helpful and strategic in the past, and start healing them. To heal these distortions means to come into balance and better see 'messy' multi-causal contributions to interpersonal problems.
This program is for people who struggle to understand themselves, their pasts; who struggle with forgiveness and anger; who have insecure attachment and unresolved traumas.

workshop Overview
This program is suitable for beginners to meditation and healing work.
The first hour of the workshop will be review that covers the basics of Attachment Theory and Attachment Repair. If you have taken other courses with attachmentrepair.com you can skip the first hour.
Unbalanced and distorted understanding of responsibility and blame is a hallmark of insecure attachment.
In this course we will seek to understand what is ‘balance’ around assigning fault, blame, guilt, and responsibility and how to achieve it. We will also investigate and seek to understand the reasons for our own distortions around assigning responsibility.
Then we’ll do a series of meditations where we investigate the extremes (total self blame/exoneration of other and total self-exoneration/blame of other) and then come into balance. This is a dialectical and exploratory task.
In these meditations we will reflect, integrate, and mentalize our own experience. Thereby, we’ll come into balance. This balance will help us be more responsive to our current live circumstances instead of reactive.
This course draws from:
- Ideal Parent Figure Protocol (Dan Brown et al.)
- Schema Therapy (Jeff Young et al.)
- Coherence Therapy (Bruce Ecker et al.)
- Dynamic Maturational Model of Attachment and Adaptation (Patricia Crittenden et al.)
- Mentalization Based Treatment.
Please note that this workshop is focused on experiential guided meditation plus some basic psycho education on attachment theory and the process of healing common perceptual distortions of insecure attachment.
This workshop is not psychotherapy or a substitute for it.
Miscellaneous Notes
