What to Expect
In this course we’ll examine old ‘interpersonal episodes’ that have triggered us in the past.
We’ll process these old episodes in guided meditations using integrative metacognitive skills as follows:
- What schemas (emotional beliefs) are coming up
- How do I view myself
- How do I view the other
- What is my wish
- What is the response of other
- How I respond to their response
- What emotions come up
- How all these variable relate to one another
- How this is from my perspective and from a third person’s perspective
- How all this integrates into the story of my life
- How this has effected me
- Then how too soothe myself
- How such experiences are normal/experienced by many
- How our response in the past was part of a valid self-protective attachment strategy (taking the ‘Pro-Symptom Position’)
- Have an emotionally corrective experience
- Recognize discrepencies between out old emotional belief and a healthier way to live
These inquiries and exercise within the meditation draw from Core Conflict Relationship Themes, Metacognitive Interpersonal Therapy, Coherence Therapy, The Dynamic Maturational Model, Ideal Parent Figure Protocol, Schema Therapy, and Buddhist Compassion Meditation (Tong Len).
The intended outcome of this is greater metacognitive integration, healing, better understanding of self, and other, and the adaptiveness of old strategies and more choice around our behaviors, going forward.
