What to Expect

Guided meditation will be the main focus of the program. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions and share whatever you feel comfortable with. There will be no pressure to do so; passive participation is perfectly fine.

In this course we’ll examine old ‘interpersonal episodes’ that have triggered us in the past.

We’ll process these old episodes in guided meditations using integrative metacognitive skills as follows:

  1. What schemas (emotional beliefs) are coming up
  2. How do I view myself
  3. How do I view the other
  4. What is my wish
  5. What is the response of other
  6. How I respond to their response
  7. What emotions come up
  8. How all these variable relate to one another
  9. How this is from my perspective and from a third person’s perspective
  10. How all this integrates into the story of my life
  11. How this has effected me
  12. Then how too soothe myself
  13. How such experiences are normal/experienced by many
  14. How our response in the past was part of a valid self-protective attachment strategy (taking the ‘Pro-Symptom Position’)
  15. Have an emotionally corrective experience
  16. Recognize discrepencies between out old emotional belief and a healthier way to live

These inquiries and exercise within the meditation draw from Core Conflict Relationship Themes, Metacognitive Interpersonal Therapy, Coherence Therapy, The Dynamic Maturational Model, Ideal Parent Figure Protocol, Schema Therapy, and Buddhist Compassion Meditation (Tong Len).

The intended outcome of this is greater metacognitive integration, healing, better understanding of self, and other, and the adaptiveness of old strategies and more choice around our behaviors, going forward.

Hi Cedric, I resonated so strongly when you said in your bio, “for the first time in 14 years, I stopped meditating. I felt adrift”. That’s exactly where I’m at, only that it’s been 6.5 years of meditating. Back in the US, after being in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia for years.

Finding meditation at 23 was a godsend. I felt I finally had a tool I could use to calm myself down from constant pain. But I had a relationship that ended about 7 months ago, and I realized that relationally there was sooooo much I was blind to. I hurt her unknowingly through what i suspect is disorganized attachment, and through so much shame I unknowingly carried.

I’m guess I’m reaching out because I want some reassurance that there’s hope in going from a place of feeling lost and powerless, to having direction and a sense of purpose, and also to thank you deeply for these meditations which allow me to be in my body again. I still feel I trip at the starting line of action over and over, but I’m not suffering as much.

Thank you so much for the work you do! Really. I’ve been telling so many people about these tapes.

PS: Have you ever thought about translating these to Spanish?
